    Perfect Budget Entry Kit

Posted by Chris on 11th Mar 2022

This kit has everything a beginner needs for most basic locks - I've now recommended these to a couple of friends getting started. The tension tools are my favorite of all the brands I've used, the four profiles are staples of mine, and the case is a perfect small pouch to keep ready-to-use stuff in. I can't think of anything I'd change.

    Civvy Intro Kit

Posted by Mark on 9th Sep 2021

I ordered two of these as starter kits for friends of mine. I had recently shown them how to pick a lock and they seemed interested and enthusiastic. I loaned each of them a pick set. One was the TOOOL 2500 set and the other was the Classic 2500. I saw them a week later and both of them were still happily picking away. So I decided to get them both a basic set to continue their toe dip into locksport. I got each the Civvy set and added the double ended slimline pick so they would have a short hook and a snake rake in the set. That to me is a good basic set that will let you open a bunch of locks before you start looking for more specialized picks for the tougher locks. I looked at a lot of pick sellers pick sets. There are a lot of starter sets out there. Both good and bad. I didn’t want to give my friends cheap pick sets made from questionable materials. But I didn’t want to give them the high dollar picks that you would never hand to a beginner either. I wanted them to have a good experience and I didn’t want to break my wallet in the process. So I ordered this set. I’ve ordered other pick sets in the past from Southern Specialties and have been very happy with them. So I knew I could hand my friends good pick sets made from quality materials that they wouldn’t have to polish and prep. That’s exactly what I got when the package arrived. I gave them a good look to see if I might need to give them a bit of a touch up before I presented them to my friends. Yes, my OCD kicked in. I’m not sure why I even bothered looking. They were perfect. The cases for the sets were perfect as always too. So if you’re looking for a good basic starter set as a gift for a friend or a gift to yourself. You can’t go wrong with this set. Add in the double ended slimline pick and you’ll likely be ready to pick 75% of the locks that you see on a daily basis.
